Marriage Commissioners in BC

It is important to book a marriage commissioner as soon as possible after you have booked the venue of your ceremony, especially if you plan to be married in the popular months, April to October.

Marriage commissioners are private citizens who have undertaken special training and are qualified to perform civil marriages under the Marriage Act.

For more information about marriage commissioners plus a list of their names and contact information:

A - Go to http://www.vs.gov.bc.ca/marriage/howto.html

B - Look under 'Service Information' for 'Search for a Marriage Commissioner'. This will lead you to a search function to receive a list of commissioners in your area.

C - Try to find someone close to your ceremony location as travel costs can be a consideration. Sometimes your contact person at your ceremony location can recommend a commissioner who lives nearby and is familiar with the site.

On your wedding day, you will need to provide the marriage commissioner with a marriage license and his/her fee (plus HST/GST). Information on how to find a marriage license issuer near you and the exact fee that will be owing to the marriage commissioner can also be found on the site given above.
